What does a Seattle tourist-visa applicant need?

When the L visa fits
Use the L category when sightseeing and personal tourism are the main purpose of the trip. If visiting qualifying relatives is the main purpose, compare the Q1/Q2 family-visit requirements. For supplier visits, negotiations, or trade events, review the M business-visa requirements.
Current L visa document checklist
- Passport bio page and requested blank visa-page images. Current San Francisco guidance calls for more than six months of remaining validity and at least two blank visa pages.
- Proof of residence in the consular district, such as a driver's license, state ID, utility bill, internet bill, or bank statement.
- The most recent Chinese visa or residence permit, if applicable.
- Naturalization, former Chinese passport, or official name-change evidence when the applicant's history requires it.
- Birth and parent-status documents for certain first-time applicants under age 16.
- Valid U.S. stay or residence evidence for a non-U.S. citizen applying in the United States.

Tourist application workflow
- Confirm tourism is the primary purpose. Check whether an existing Chinese visa is still usable before starting a new application.
- Choose San Francisco online. Complete the form truthfully and upload the documents requested for the individual application.
- Respond to review messages. Supply corrections or supplementary material in the online system.
- Wait for the passport status. Do not deliver the passport until the system says it should be submitted.
- Arrange submission and collection. Current instructions allow the applicant, another person, or an agency to handle these steps without an appointment. The consulate provides no mail service.
Timing and fees
The San Francisco consulate currently lists regular processing as four business days and urgent express processing as two to three business days, counted from passport submission.
